REI markets itself as a progressive outdoor co-op, but its actions tell a different story. Despite its reputation, REI has engaged in union-busting tactics, violated labor laws, hired a notorious anti-union attorney connected to Elon Musk, and supported political figures who advocate for opening public lands to mineral exploration—policies that directly conflict with the environmental values REI claims to champion.

For over three years, REI workers have been fighting for a fair contract. During this time, they’ve faced intimidation, delays, and illegal union-busting efforts from corporate leadership. Now more than ever, we need community support to hold REI accountable and protect the rights of workers.

Join us for a Community Hearing on Saturday, April 26th at the First Presbyterian Church of Oakland. With special remarks by Congresswoman Lateefah Simon, this gathering will feature testimony from REI workers on the front lines, environmental allies whose missions align with the co-op’s original values, and elected officials standing in solidarity with labor.

This is your chance to hear the real stories behind REI’s public image—and to take action. Bring a friend, your neighbors, or your favorite trail buddy, and learn how we can build a stronger, fairer outdoor community together.
